We arrived at the hospital and after all the questions and set up that you have to go through, we just hung out while I got started on some pitocin. The hospital was so super busy, that through out the day I had 5 different nurses because each kept having a delivery to help with and would hand me off to another. I didn't mind since all of my delivery nurses were awesome. I got my epidural, and I just want to say ouch. I was must have been spoiled with Adam because of my anesthesiologist, he was awesome and did the newer 'air-gun' technique. It sounded like an air gun shooting it into your back and getting my IV in my arm hurt worse than that. But this time around it was the old school way and holy crap, I was sweating bullets! It hurt so bad. (Or I might just be a baby) Now this next part I'm not complaining about the pain, because I know people go natural and I tip my hat to them. But I am complaining about the epidural, I guess that I expect to get my moneys worth. It wasn't working very well, and the dr came back in to help me and it still didn't do anything. It just bugs that I'll be paying hefty for it, when it didn't work very well. Oh well I guess that happens in life. My water was broke at 2 pm and after that I wasn't progressing very fast because Emma was turned backwards, so it was slow going for the next couple hours. She finally decided to come faster around 6 pm because I went from a 4 to an 8 in less than an hour, and at 7:30 two other women and I were about ready to push, but we all had the same doctor, and so I was chosen to wait until last. I had mixed feeling about this since Emma was turned backwards, I was having back labor, which is apparently really painful and my epidural wasn't super great anyways so needless to say my back was killing me!! But the up side was that it gave the baby time to move even further down so that I wouldn't have to push as long. I finally got to start pushing at 8:23 and she was here at 8:31. I delivered at McKay Dee and they have this new skin-to-skin that they do where they put the baby immediately on your bare chest and she's bare too. It's supposed to be beneficial to both mom and baby, and I think I agree. Emma is a very content little baby and eats well and sleeps well. We love having her already!!
Heading up to the hospital. I've gotten so many 'basketball up the shirt' comments this pregnancy.
Our family of 4. It's crazy when I think of that. I have two kids now.
Adam had to sit on the couch by us girls. He's been absolutely wonderful this whole time. I wonder how long it will take for him to realize that she isn't going anywhere...
And at last, our very favorite picture of her so far.
